Hypnotherapy: various and infinite hypnotic definitions
In hypnotherapy you will not take a blow to the head, sleep in the office while someone removes the problem from your mind and wake up with the difficulty solved.
But you can get very close to sleep, not sleep, actively and passively participate in the hypnotherapy dynamics and wake up having subconsciously absorbed, with little or no effort, the Solution to your problem.
It is important to differentiate stage hypnosis from office hypnosis.
Stage hypnosis: circus, show and audience
Hypnotherapy is not stage hypnosis. It is not a presentation. You do not imitate a dog or a chicken. You do not eat an onion thinking it is an apple. The hypnotherapist will not climb on top of you, nor will he throw you to the ground.
Clinical and therapeutic hypnosis: focus and individuality
Hypnotherapy is so different in its practice that it even displeases those who expect magic tricks in its therapeutic executions. The ends are magical because through hypnosis, problems that have not been resolved anywhere or in any therapeutic practice are solved.
However, some of the things that a good professional will do are:
- Investigate, recognize or discard possible occurrences throughout your life that may have contributed to the current problem;
- Suggest that a series of items are solved naturally by your subconscious;
- Use indirect strategies, not recognized or appreciated by you at the time, or even later, that will make your subconscious take charge of solving the problem in a more dedicated and easier way;
- Develop resources through the use of your own attention and will with the help of hypnosis as a state;
- Make you use your imagination to create solutions, program reactions, emotions and feelings that are more useful to your life and the scenario presented;
- Reconfigure the way you respond without thinking to situations and internal stimuli (thoughts, memories) and external stimuli (places, people, moments, food);
- Make you discover and remember moments in your life when you had more options and greater flexibility, allowing you to use these mental and behavioral attitudes in the present or future;
Between fear and interest
Those interested in undergoing treatment through hypnosis always think that they will do the same things that are done in a stage hypnosis presentation. But, all those who expect this are surprised, because therapeutic hypnotic procedures are different and aim to measure, optimize and make the therapeutic responses of each individual unique.
Sharing techniques and phenomenology
Hypnosis as a set of techniques is vast and it can be said that its variety is shared both in its circus use and in its clinical use. The intention of the hypnotist and the hypnotized is what defines the category, context and application of hypnosis.
There is no way to qualify a hypnotic technique or principle as a stage or clinical procedure. The relevant factor is the way in which it is used through mental attitude, objectives agreed upon between the parties involved and individual desires of both the hypnotist and the hypnotized to achieve a result.
For example, hypnotherapy lacks coercion, forced amnesia to promote mockery, however, it has spontaneous and induced amnesia, with a high therapeutic effect and great clinical efficacy; immediately turning the interpretation and usefulness of something like amnesia, understood as a disadvantageous phenomenon, into something of extreme value and therapeutic consideration.
Therapeutically, one of the great therapeutic lessons of amnesia is that if the person does not remember, does not see, and, therefore, cannot fight against a certain influence or stimulus. He is not capable of disagreeing with what was worked on, or against the remembered, rescued, relived impulse, which generated the momentary catharsis, in the trance, but which was forgotten soon after the session. However, in the same way, the therapeutic effect and lesson of amnesia is also that of being the repressive mechanism of problems, of traumatic memories,even though they exist as an influence in the individual's life, but are not remembered as a causal origin, although these are not necessarily therapeutic objects, they are useful for analysis. But, deep down, the greatest impediment to therapeutic evolution is anxiety. Since memories come naturally in the set of changes that the subconscious tries to promote in the individual.
The phenomenological irrelevance in hypnotherapy
In the office, what happens tends to be of little importance in terms of physical and mental responsiveness with regard to the observation of the hypnotized person. The value that is taken from stage practice is the physical response, the weakened mental state, the dramatic element. In the office, the value is the practice itself, because it leads to growth as a ritual, as a process, as self-knowledge, as an exercise, as a culture, as an individual rite, as an element of one's own pleasure, as a form of self-use, as the unveiling of a deeper reality in autonomous and self-conscious possibilities. The subconscious in the office is the instrument of absolute success, as in Henrique de Azevêdo's Hypnotic Therapy, it is the beginning, middle and end of flawless psychotherapy, it is the enabler of the human being's functioning and only leaves countless choices, none of them as yes or no, 8 or 80, life or death, or, it worked or it didn't work. Not to mention that the recovery of a result obtained is always fast and not dramatic, as seen in true hypnotherapy – the Fail-Safe Psychotherapy.
Monitoring results
Hypnosis in the office leaves its traces because it was made for this. It is as simple as everyday thinking. It is as natural as going to the bathroom, at the right time, applied in the right way. Hypnosis in the office leaves deep marks in its power of characterization through subtle and pleasurable, natural and spontaneous changes; changes that come effortlessly and, with great care, also come without being noticed, but not without being experienced. Thus, one of the most precious and important items of the hypnotic process was formed: monitoring results. Irrevocably the easiest to obtain, the result, with the most difficult to recognize: oneself. Now, why? Because you will certainly know when you stopped smoking, or drinking, or sleeping badly, however, you would know if you were on the right path with each small step, with each difference, with each small change offered, clearly and notably in your daily life, thoughts, habits, behaviors, emotions, physical sensations, even if any of the previous habits existed throughout the process of conquering the abandonment of all of them or each of them, one by one.
When on stage you expect endless laughter, choking when saying the letter A, difficulty in remembering your own name, the inability to get up from your seat, in the office you only expect practice, more practice and understanding, more monitoring and more understanding, more monitoring, more results and more understanding of the hypnotized person.
In the office there is nothing to fear, there is something to root for, there is something to be excited about, there is something to educate yourself about, there is something to learn more and more together with your hypnotherapist, your partner, your team, there is a lot to give up, such as the rush to change or self-demand. There is much to understand regarding the results monitored, the process of change, the understanding of the maturation of results, and how to maintain them. There is much to understand about the process of energetic understanding responsible for the well-being of the human being.
For the hypnotized, there are many orders to follow, but none to frustrate them. There is much to use, there is much to evolve, because they will become a master the more they dedicate themselves, the more they allow themselves to flow.
