Discovering what hypnosis is not makes it easier to know what it really is. Correctly recognizing its role and distinguishing it from other associations erroneously advocated by conventional means is basic and essential to fully enjoy the hypnotic phenomenon.
You will be able to observe here that hypnosis is an individual system that appropriates others, and that defines and limits them, by freeing them by granting the use of individual will. However, it is not limited to the barriers imposed by each of its uses. All the forms described here are hypnosis or their possible use, but hypnosis, by itself, is only itself.
Hypnosis is not meditation
Meditation is the neutral use of attention. Meditation is the passive and non-manipulative action of the emotional. Meditation is the liberation of the unconscious without giving it specific direction. Hypnosis is the manipulation of the unconscious to give it specific direction, so that it serves you, so that it can nourish your inner desires.
Hypnosis is not age regression
Age regression, also known as hypnoanalysis, is the return to the past, reliving it intensely and participatively or remembering it dissociatively to reap the benefit and possible progress of recognizing or nullifying the relevance of decisions correlated to a present symptomatic picture. Hypnosis is the use of the present in the way that best suits the clinical picture presented to offer the associated benefits. Regression may or may not be included in the use of hypnosis. Regression is hypnosis. However, hypnosis is not regression. The latter being merely a hypnotic technique, not mandatory in psychotherapy.
Hypnosis is not past life regression (PLR)
Past life regression (PLR) is a spiritualist phenomenon, not necessary for the existence of a hypnotic trance and also optional in its use, like age regression, previously described here. Hypnosis can use past life regression as a technique, especially when convenient to the hypnotized person, however, past life regression is hypnosis and does not occur without it. Although hypnosis is not past life regression. Whether spontaneous and naturalistic or provoked and mechanistic, PLR is hypnosis. But hypnosis is not RVP.
Hypnosis is not relaxation
Similar to meditation, relaxation caused by other techniques, influences or therapeutic modalities for improvement and well-being, such as massage, yoga, etc., has as its objective only the neutral use of the non-conscious and as its primary intention the relaxation or momentary sedation. Hypnosis uses relaxation only as a means to obtain progress in its instantaneous state in the development of the intellect and to be able to reproduce constant changes.
Hypnosis is not magic
Magic is the model of using physical elements, herbs, symbols and other props as ways to manipulate external results without guarantees, without specificity or rigor of the use of the human internal system. Hypnosis is done entirely by the use of the human internal system, of non-consciousness, of the manipulation of one's own will to obtain results. Magic is hypnosis when properly used by the human internal system, but hypnosis is not magic.
Hypnosis is not magic
Magic is the use of perceptual illusion to obtain fascination from its observers. Hypnosis is the effective use of the human ability to change perception and internal qualities for one's own benefit.
Hypnosis is not loss of consciousness
It is often confused as an instrument that leads to loss of consciousness or something evil, which is not true. The hypnotic trance is a state of super-consciousness. Through the manipulation of the unconscious, the conscious opens and expands, facilitating changes for the benefit of the one who uses it.
Hypnosis is not an outerwordly thing
The hypnotic trance is inherent to the human being. Hypnosis is the master state of learning. This master state is merely the intensification of the learning state, in which the human being is able to absorb with greater ease what is transmitted to him verbally, non-verbally or symbolically. Through hypnosis, one changes without making a conscious effort, creating new spaces for learning or re-educating spaces previously occupied by other subjects.
Hypnosis is not loss of control
Hypnosis is about gaining control of the unconscious. The unconscious, which in turn represents any loss of control or absence thereof, is the antithesis of the hypnotic state. The hypnotic trance uses existing suggestibility so that past instructions can be interpreted, digested and transformed into autonomous unconscious instructions, also known as self-conscious. Hypnosis is the highest level of control that a human being can achieve. Loss of control is the greatest enemy of hypnosis.
